Not legal advice. No template is compliant out of the box. A SWMS has to be made site-specific with the workers doing the job before work starts. SWMS Kit is not a regulator.

Electrician SWMS Kit · SWMS 06

Solar PV installation on roofs

Roof-mounted solar PV: falls, DC that stays live in daylight, and heat on the roof.

Ships as two files: Model WHS (NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, ACT, NT, WA) and a Victorian OHS version. Falls more than 2 m, and energised electrical work — array DC is live whenever there is light. Model (a) and (k). Victorian 1 and 7. Not compliant until you make it specific to the site with the workers doing the work.

Solar PV SWMS — task, hazards, controls, how implemented, who’s responsible.

What the task table covers

  • Set up the roof work. Fall from the edge or through a fragile roof, overhead lines
  • Handle modules and DC. DC shock and arc from a string that cannot be switched off in sunlight, manual handling
  • Install inverter and AC connection. Energised switchboard, wrong polarity, export limits ignored
  • Work in heat on the roof. Heat illness, rushed work near the edge late in the day

Heat and weather notes belong on this SWMS when the work is in a ceiling or on a roof.

Falls more than 2 metres — and in South Australia that 2 metre trigger applies from 1 July 2026.
