Not legal advice. No template is compliant out of the box. A SWMS has to be made site-specific with the workers doing the job before work starts. SWMS Kit is not a regulator.

Electrician SWMS Kit · SWMS 05

Ceiling spaces and confined/restricted spaces (incl. asbestos awareness and heat)

Ceiling spaces that may be confined or restricted, with asbestos in old buildings and heat that changes the job in summer.

Ships as two files: Model WHS (NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, ACT, NT, WA) and a Victorian OHS version. Model (f) confined space and (d) asbestos, (p) extreme temperature. Victorian 11, 16 and 6. Not compliant until you make it specific to the site with the workers doing the work.

Site-specific in 10 minutes guide from the Electrician SWMS Kit
Site-specific in 10 minutes — the guide that ships with the kit.

What the task table covers

  • Decide if the ceiling space is a confined space. Calling a confined space a 'ceiling' and skipping the controls
  • Check for asbestos and heat before entry. Disturbing asbestos lagging or dust, heat illness
  • Enter and work. Fall through the ceiling, contact with live cables in the dark, isolation of the person
  • Leave the space. Someone still inside, boards left so the next person falls through

Asbestos awareness sits on this SWMS. It is not a removal licence.

Heat and weather notes belong on this SWMS when the work is in a ceiling or on a roof.
